Offendersearch browser extension — privacy policy
Last updated September 5, 2026
What the extension does
The Offendersearch browser extension adds a sex-offender registry screening panel to referral pages in supported platforms (CarePort, ExtendedCare, Ensocare). When you click Run screening, it searches US sex-offender registries for the person on the referral you are viewing and shows the result in place.
What it reads
Only the fields needed to run a search, from the referral you already have open: the person’s name, date of birth, and state. It reads nothing else from the page — no diagnosis, no medical record number, no clinical notes, no other chart content.
What it sends, and to whom
When you run a screening, the name, date of birth and state are sent to the Offendersearch API (api.offendersearch.app) to perform the search, over an encrypted connection. That is the only destination. Data is never sold, rented, or shared with any third party, and is never sent to the host platform or any advertiser.
What it stores
In your browser only: your sign-in (a session token or API key) and, so the panel can show “already screened,” a record of prior checks keyed by a one-way hash — the person’s details are never written to disk in readable form. Nothing is stored on any server by the extension beyond the search records your Offendersearch account already keeps, subject to that account’s retention policy.
What it never does
- Never runs a search on its own — every screening is an explicit click
- Never reads or changes anything in the host platform; it only reads the person’s name and DOB to screen
- Never collects analytics, tracking, or browsing history
- Never sells or shares data
Protected health information & BAA
Because a patient’s name and date of birth are protected health information, healthcare organizations must have a signed Business Associate Agreement in place before using the extension. Results are public-records data, not a consumer report, and are not for FCRA-covered decisions.
