Verify an Offendersearch report
Every completed FCRA report comes with a signed receipt. Enter the report ID printed on the PDF to confirm it is genuine and has not been altered.
Three checks, all on your device
Verification proves two things: that the receipt came from us, and that your PDF is the exact file the receipt describes.
1. Find the report ID
It is printed on the PDF next to a QR code. Scanning the code opens the right page directly.
2. Check the signed receipt
Every completed report has a receipt signed with our published Ed25519 key. The page checks that signature in your browser.
3. Compare the PDF
Choose the PDF. Your browser computes its SHA-256 fingerprint and compares it with the signed fingerprint on the receipt. The file is never uploaded.
What the receipt proves — and what it doesn’t
It proves
That we completed this report at the time shown, under the controls version shown, and that the PDF and JSON fingerprints on the receipt are the ones we issued. The PDF is generated once when the report completes and stored, so its fingerprint never changes.
It doesn’t
Decide anything about the person. Screening decisions belong to the company that ordered the report. If you believe a record in a report about you is wrong, open the consumer portal to see it and dispute it.
Report verification questions
Does this page show what is in the report?
No. The receipt holds the report ID, when it was completed, the version of the controls it ran under and the report’s fingerprints — nothing about the person it describes. To see the records in a report about you, use the consumer portal.
Is my PDF uploaded when I check it?
No. The fingerprint is computed by your own browser using its built-in cryptography. The file does not leave your device, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the check still works.
What does “no match” mean?
The file you chose is not byte-for-byte the PDF the receipt was issued for. It may have been edited, printed and re-scanned, re-saved by another program, or it may belong to a different report. Ask whoever sent it for the original file.
Can I check a report without this website?
Yes. The receipt publishes the public key and the exact signed fields; the report page lists the OpenSSL commands to check the PDF fingerprint and the signature offline.
Who issues these reports?
Offendersearch furnishes FCRA-regulated sex offender registry and criminal record searches to approved consumer reporting agencies and screening platforms under a written FCRA agreement. The screening company that ordered the report is the one that sends it to you.
