California Trick-or-Treat Safety
About 62,900 registrants we index list a California address — about 1.6 for every 1,000 residents. Before trick-or-treat night, search the neighborhoods your kids will actually walk: every US registry in one pass, with photographs and a link to the official registry record behind every match.
No code needed — type a name, city, or ZIP and get photographs and official registry records.
Search your California route
Search each stretch of the route by city or ZIP. The search is scoped to California below, but it still runs across every US registry — so a neighbor who registered somewhere else surfaces too, which is exactly what a one-state site cannot do.

Halloween rules in California
California has no Halloween statute for all registrants. Paroled sex offenders under state supervision follow Halloween night conditions, checked each year in the corrections department’s “Operation Boo.” These rules cover people on state parole for a sex offense who are not authorized to have contact with minors — not every registrant.
- A curfew from 5 p.m. on October 31 to 5 a.m. on November 1 requires these parolees to remain indoors. CDCR, Operation Boo (Nov. 1, 2025)
- All exterior lights must be off, no Halloween decorations are allowed and no Halloween candy may be offered. CDCR, Operation Boo (Nov. 1, 2025)
- During the curfew they may open the door only to law enforcement, adult family members or for an emergency. CDCR, Operation Boo (Nov. 1, 2025)
Sources linked above, checked October 8, 2026. Supervision rules are announced each year and can change; local police and sheriffs may run their own checks too. This is general information, not legal advice.
Before the 31st in California
1 · Search where you’ll walk
Run each neighborhood on the route — Los Angeles or any other California city — by city, ZIP, or a radius around a point. A few searches cover most routes.
2 · Verify at the official record
Every match links to its official registry entry, so anything that concerns you is verified at the source that published it — not taken on faith from a map pin.
3 · Plan the night
An adult along, kids in groups, lit streets, candy checked at home. The registry is awareness that feeds the plan — never a list of doors to mark or confront.
California trick-or-treat safety FAQ
Do sex offenders in California have Halloween restrictions?
California has no Halloween statute for all registrants. Paroled sex offenders under state supervision follow Halloween night conditions, checked each year in the corrections department’s “Operation Boo.” The rules cover people on state parole for a sex offense who are not authorized to have contact with minors — not everyone on the registry. People who have finished parole or probation are generally not under these conditions. They are listed below with their sources. A search of your route still matters either way: it shows who is registered near the streets you will walk.
How do I check my trick-or-treat route in California?
Search each neighborhood you plan to walk — Los Angeles or any other California city, or the ZIP itself — in the box above. Every match returns photographs, addresses, and a link to the official registry record, so anything that concerns you can be verified at the source that published it. Then plan the night around supervision: an adult along, kids in groups, well-lit streets. Your first 25 searches are free, no card required.
How many registered sex offenders are in California?
We index approximately 62,900 registrants with a California address — about 1.6 for every 1,000 residents on the 2020 Census population. Treat the figure as scale rather than a fixed number: the registered population moves continuously as people are added, move, or are released from the requirement. For your own streets, a search answers better than any statewide count.
Will a California check catch someone who moved here from another state?
Yes — that is the point of searching here rather than one state's site. A search runs across every US registry at once, so someone now living in California who registered in Arizona and Nevada still surfaces. Narrowing to a California city or ZIP filters where people live; it never shrinks where we look.
What should I do with what I find?
Treat it as awareness, not a target list. Most registrants are legally required to be exactly where they are, and many jurisdictions restrict whether registrants participate in Halloween at all. What protects kids is the plan: go together, keep to groups and lit streets, check candy at home. Using registry information to harass, threaten, or discriminate against anyone is prohibited by law everywhere.
Standard results are not a consumer report; FCRA-covered decisions run through FCRA Partner Access, our separately enabled regulated service. Using registry information to harass, threaten, or discriminate against anyone is prohibited by law.
